As part of the Visual Learning Conference at Carleton College on September 29, Kaila Bussert presented “Visual Literacy Across the Liberal Arts: New Standards and New Opportunities for Collaboration.” (pdf)

Attended by faculty, technologists, and librarians, the conference was a culmination of a three-year grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for a new initiative called Visualizing the Liberal Arts (Viz).  (The keynote speaker was Scott McCloud, comics artist and author of Understanding Comics.)  Kaila’s presentation outlined the ACRL Visual Literacy Standards, discussed the role of libraries in supporting visual learning, and provided examples of ways to develop partnerships between teaching faculty and librarians that integrate visual literacy across the liberal arts curriculum.
